LogTide

Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

LogTide is built on the principle of privacy by design. We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide our service and give you full control over your information.

1. Data Controller

The data controller for LogTide is:

This privacy policy applies to the LogTide website (logtide.dev) and the LogTide cloud service (app.logtide.dev).

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Account Data

When you create a LogTide account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for authentication, account recovery, and alert notifications
  • Display name — shown within the application interface
  • Password — stored only as a bcrypt hash, never in plain text

2.2 Usage Data

We store minimal usage metadata:

  • Last login timestamp — for security and account management
  • Account creation date — for administrative purposes

2.3 Log Data You Send

LogTide processes the log data you send to the platform. This data is your data. We act as a data processor on your behalf. For self-hosted deployments, this data never leaves your infrastructure.

2.4 What We Do Not Collect

We do not:

  • Use cookies for tracking or advertising
  • Use third-party analytics services (no Google Analytics, no tracking pixels)
  • Collect browser fingerprints or device identifiers
  • Track your behavior across websites
  • Sell or share your data with third parties
  • Collect payment or billing information (the service is free and open source)

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect exclusively to:

  • Provide and maintain the LogTide service
  • Authenticate you and secure your account
  • Send alert notifications you have configured
  • Communicate important service updates (security notices, breaking changes)

We do not use your data for profiling, advertising, or any purpose beyond operating the service.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process your data based on:

  • Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)) — processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — security measures, abuse prevention, and service improvement
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — where applicable, such as receiving optional communications

5. Data Storage and Security

  • Account data is stored in encrypted databases
  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text
  • Authentication uses token-based sessions (not cookies) with automatic expiration
  • All connections are encrypted via TLS/HTTPS

For self-hosted deployments, all data remains on your own infrastructure. You maintain full control over storage, retention, and access.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data — retained while your account is active, deleted upon account deletion
  • Log data — retained according to your configured retention policies
  • Authentication tokens — automatically expire after 30 days of inactivity

7. Third-Party Services

The LogTide website and service use the following third-party services:

  • GitHub — our source code is hosted on GitHub. Interactions with our repository are subject to GitHub's privacy policy.

Web fonts are self-hosted — no external font services are used. If you configure external authentication providers (OIDC, LDAP), those providers process data according to their own privacy policies.

8. Your Rights

Under GDPR and applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate personal data
  • Erasure — request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Restriction — restrict processing of your data
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

9. International Data Transfers

LogTide infrastructure is located in the European Union. We do not transfer your personal data outside the EU/EEA unless required to provide the service (e.g., if you configure an external authentication provider located outside the EU).

For self-hosted deployments, data location is determined by your own infrastructure choices.

10. Children's Privacy

LogTide is not intended for use by individuals under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via the website or email notification. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
